Alison was recently chosen to attend Heritage Training in 2017 under the direct mentorship of Master Instructor Cara Reeser in the lineage of Pilates Elder Kathy Grant. She is a Pilates Method Alliance Certified instructor with over a decade of teaching experience garnered in both Alabama and New York. Her instructor training began with Physical Mind Institute in 2003; in 2005, she completed a comprehensive apprenticeship at NY PILATES in Manhattan, under the tutelage of Justine DiCostanza — becoming a third generation Classical instructor in the lineage of Elder Romana Kryzanowska.
Alison’s continuing education includes training with Anantomy Trains Inc.; Elders: Ron Fletcher and Mary Bowen; and Master Instructors: Cara Reeser, Michele Larsson, Mejo Wiggin, Amy Alpers, and Amy Lange. Though she has worked with celebrities and athletes over the years, her proudest accomplishment is in providing the healing benefits of Pilates to those in chronic pain. She specializes in instruction for arthritis, hip & knee replacements, spinal fusions, rehabilitation for professional dancers and more.
Alison’s education in dance and study of kinesiology for dancers greatly influences her teaching philosophy. She is a graduate of The Alabama School of Fine Arts in Dance, and received her BFA (with Honors) in Dance from the University of Arizona. She later graduated with an MA degree in Arts Education (Dance/Theatre Emphasis) from New York University. While in New York, she worked as an assistant to the Dance Supervisor of Disney’s The Lion King on Broadway. She founded Birmingham, AL’s professional company AROVA Contemporary Ballet in 2006, and served as ACB Artistic Director until 2014. She attended Aircat Aerial Yoga’s teacher training in Boulder, CO in 2013, establishing Aero Joe in Pepper Place the same year.
